TSC announces 5,690 vacancies for school heads nationwide
The commission is looking to recruit 755 principals at Grade D3 and T-scale 13, and 816 deputy principals III at Grade D1 and T-scale 11.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 5,690 new job openings for principals, deputy principals, headteachers, and deputy headteachers in schools across Kenya.
The latest recruitment aims to address staffing gaps in the education sector, which has seen a surge in demand for qualified teachers.

In a notice on Tuesday, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia outlined the specifics of the available positions, stating that the commission is looking to recruit 755 principals at Grade D3 and T-scale 13, and 816 deputy principals III at Grade D1 and T-scale 11.
Additionally, TSC seeks 1,208 headteachers at Grade C5 and T-scale 10, and 2,911 deputy headteachers at Grade C4 and T-scale 9.
Qualified candidates are encouraged to submit their applications through the TSC online portal (www.teachersonline.go.ke) by midnight on November 18, 2024.
Macharia pointed out that only online applications would be accepted, and successful candidates would be deployed to schools with current vacancies.
This recruitment drive comes a month after TSC invited applications to fill 46,000 teaching positions across primary, junior secondary, and secondary schools.
Mass recruitment
For that recruitment round, the commission received 314,117 applications within the first week of October alone, with 93,646 applications for the 6,000 primary school positions, 144,177 applications for 39,550 junior secondary school posts, and 76,294 applications for 450 secondary school vacancies.
Still, in October 2024, the commission advertised a mass recruitment of 20,000 internship positions in Junior Secondary Schools.
Appearing before the National Assembly's Parliamentary Education Committee, Macharia told the MPs that the country faces a shortage of teachers, especially in sciences.
She said that science teachers would be given a preference during the recruitment exercise.
"I have never denied the fact that, as a country, we have a crisis and we need to look for ways to address it. We have to agree that there is a shortage of science teachers. When advertisements for physics teachers are made, nobody applies," the TSC boss told the committee chaired by Tinderet MP Julius Melly.
The TSC allocated Sh13.4 billion from the Treasury to support permanent and pensionable contracts for these new positions, set to begin in January 2025.
Macharia also informed MPs that the Commission has allocated Sh1 billion for teacher promotions in the Financial Year 2024-2025.
